Engineer innovates award-winning contact tracing device

by The 100 Companies

Reliability and privacy are crucial for innovators developing IoT solutions for COVID-19 contact tracing.

For software engineer Mithun Das, a conversation with his wife inspired TraceX, which won him the China-U.S. Young Maker Competition grand prize.

He tells E100 he wanted a wearable solution not dependent on smartphones.

Das works for the Cox Automotive Retail team and his smart parking and machine-to-machine payment research provided the answer. “Beacon technology popped into my mind, and I invented TraceX using a cheap [microcontroller unit] and Bluetooth module.”   TraceX stores proximity data. If wearers are infected, everyone who was nearby can be notified.
