Data scientists are in high demand, but a Forbes article notes, companies should be searching for data engineers too.
The rise in artificial intelligence, machine learning, other big data and predictive analytics are driving demand. But hiring managers must understand, the overlap in what data scientists and data engineers know doesn’t make them interchangeable.
Data scientists specialize in getting useful information from data. Math, statistics, probability and algorithms are their realm.
Gathering data, making it “clean” and moving it is best done by data engineers. They’re programming, integration, architecture and systems experts.
So, the answer often isn’t either-or, it’s both.
