Improved milk processing system helps save vulnerable infants

by The 100 Companies

Engineers and the innovations they create make life better, safer, easier and healthier.

Steve Peterson is a retired medical engineer with a background in product development. Peterson helped develop a better system for the milk processing lab at Northwest Mothers Milk Bank, which collects and distributes donated human milk for infants.

He designed a lightweight, stainless steel pasteurization basket. Then, he installed a wireless LAN logger system with a large monitor display so that milk processing staff can easily visualize water and milk temperature changes.

With the help of a streamlined pasteurization process, NWMMB pasteurizes approximately 13,000 ounces per week.
