This July 4 marks the 244th anniversary of American independence. Let’s learn about some influential American engineers in U.S. history.

Lee de Forest invented the Audion vacuum tube, leading to the discovery of radio broadcasting and talking motion pictures.

Lillian Moller Gilbreth, “The First Lady of Engineering,” was a psychologist and industrial engineer who mastered the study of time and motion, increasing efficiency and productivity in industry.

Granville T. Woods focused his work on trains and streetcars. He was the first black American to become a mechanical and electrical engineer after the Civil War.
